Pakistani Kinnow Exports Extended to Malaysia

TRTA II programme has developed the Code of Practices in the Kinnow and the Mango sectors along the entire supply chain from farm to export destinations by processor/exporter. In the last kinnow season TRTA II programme monitored the preparation of more than 15 consignments destined for exports. These consignments were sent to UK, Middle East, Far East, Russia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Canada and Iran.

Codes of practices developed under the TRTA II programme ensure the quality and safety of fruit along the entire supply chain. The Programme through its interventions on trade linkages organized the visit of buyers from Malaysian supermarket ECONSAVE to Pakistan. Malaysian buyers visited various Kinnow and Mango pack houses. ECONSAVE then approached one of the Kinnow export processing units where the codes of practices were implemented. As a result exports to ECONSAVE have started.

A 12 member delegation lead by EU-TRTA II-UNIDO including 10 farmers and exporters is participating in Fruit Logistica 2014, Berlin, Germany. In fruit logistica EU-TRTA II-UNIDO has prepared to introduce the Pakistani kinnow as judicable mandarin. It is expected that exports of Pakistani kinnow to Germany and other Eastern European countries will start in this season.
