Ms. Ismat Gul Khattak, Director General, Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) attended a one week annual ILAC/IAF meeting convened in Milan, Italy, where she also participated in the Joint Development Support Committee (JDSC).
During the event, Ms. Khattak met with Mr. Bernardo Calzadilla-Sarmiento, Director of Trade Capacity Building branch, leading the UNIDO delegation at the meeting. On the occasion, she praised the positive impact of the TRTA II support to the Conformity Assessment Infrastructure in Pakistan.
The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF) meet annually to discuss strategies for developing and harmonizing laboratory and inspection body accreditation practices and identify successful common goals.
The ILAC/IAF meetings allow for signatory member countries to raise their voice, share best practices and benefit from other members’ experience, which is aimed at improving inter-institutional cooperation, as well as an individual institution’s operations and management.
Ms. Khattak has extensive 25 years’ experience in Conformity Assessment, having worked previously as a director at PNAC from 2002 to 2008, after which she moved to UAE and worked with the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology. She has recently been appointed as DG, Pakistan National Accreditation Council.
She shared her vision about the future of the Pakistani organization and in particular how to reach sustainability in the medium term, through the provision of competent and up to the mark services provided by a the large pool of laboratories that recently achieved accreditation, with the support of TRTA II programme funded by the EU in Pakistan.
