Training Course “Food safety System Certification – FSSC 22000 LA” under TRTA-II Programme

Based on the study “Assessment and Analysis of Certification Requirements in Selected Export Sectors of Pakistan”, TRTA-II Programme in collaboration with Pakistan Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), conducted the “Certified Trainings of Consultants and Responsible Personnel of Enterprises of Selected Sectors” programme. Bureau Veritas Certifications (BVC) was awarded the contract to conduct these training courses during a period of three months, from January – March, 2016.

The expression of interest was advertised in the daily newspaper on November 17, 2015 and a wide number of applications were received. The candidates were shortlisted on the basis of qualification, experience, organization and relevancy to the training course in the current job.

Overall 10 courses had been selected while the training course on FSSC 22000 LA had to be conducted twice, as IRCA permits only 10 number of participants per session. Around 170 personnel were trained collectively in these courses.

Two training courses on “FSSC 22000 LA” were conducted from 11th to 15th January, 2016 and 8th to 12th February, 2016 in Lahore and twenty shortlisted candidates participated. The opening and closing remarks for the first course were given by DG PCSIR Dr. Sakhawat Ali and Director P&D, PCSIR Dr. Irfan Ahmad Rabbani. For the second course the opening remarks were given by Dr. Faqir Anjum, Director Institute of Home & Food Science, GC University Faisalabad.

FSSC 22000 contains a complete certification scheme for Food Safety Systems based on the food safety management standard ISO 22000: 2005 ‘Requirements for any organization in the food chain’ and the publicly available specification for Prerequisite programs on food safety for food manufacturing, BSI PAS 220: 2008 or ISO/TS 22002-1:2009. It is applicable to all organizations in the food chain, regardless of size and complexity, profit-making or not, public or private. The FSSC 22000 certification scheme encompasses detailed requirements for food safety systems of organizations in the food chain, certification system of certification bodies, and accreditation by the accreditation bodies. ISO 22000 certified manufacturers can obtain FSSC 22000 certification by fulfilling the technical requirements for sector PRPs and the additional scheme requirements.

At the end of each course, participants took an exam from International Register for Certified Auditors (IRCA) & certificates of attendance were distributed amongst them. The participants who qualify the exam will be awarded certificates of achievement.
