Ceremony for the Demonstration of a small-scale hot water treatment prototype

A Ceremony was organized jointly by TRTA II and PARC/NARC for the demonstration of a small-scale hot water treatment prototype at the Mango Research Institute, Multan on Monday, July 14, 2014. Dr. Iftikhar, Chairman PARC and Dr. Azeem Khan, Director General, NARC attended the ceremony, while Mr. Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Federal Minister for MNFS&R was the Chief Guest.
The use of small scale hot water treatment unit was demonstrated to the farmers. Demonstration was followed by a two hour meeting attended by more than 150 farmers. The concept of the small scale hot water treatment unit was appreciated by the numerous farmers who attended the demonstartion. The farmers were convinced that with the use of this HWT unit, post harvest losses will be reduced and it would help to control the fruit fly infestation in the mangoes for export. Mr Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Federal Minister for MNFS&R endorsed the fact that the small scale HWT unit conceived by TRTA II will be very beneficial to Pakistan mango industry in future.
Mr Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Federal Minister for MNFS&R said that MNFS&R has discusses in detail with the Ministry of Science and Technology about the bill for the establishment of the Federal Food safety Animal and Plant Health Regulatory Authority and the bill shall be presented to the cabinet for approval very soon.
Replying to the questions raised by the TRTA II supported Mango Growers Consortium and the President of the Multan Mango Growers Association the Minister said that Government of Pakistan will prefer to shrink the exports towards EU rather than allowing the export of uncertified fruit to Europe.
