TRTA II Sponsorship of Technical Staff of Proficiency Testing (PT) Scheme
for Training at NFI, Bangkok Thailand (21-25 April, 2014)
Trade Related Technical Assistance (TRTA-II) programme sponsored a training programme for the Proficiency Testing Team (PT NPSL) at National Food Institute (NFI), Bangkok, Thailand, from 21-25 April, 2014.
The training delegation comprised of Dr. Hajra Masood, Head Chemical Metrology Division (CMD) /Head Proficiency Testing NPSL, Mr. Muhammad Younas Kalim, SIC Physico Chemical Measurement Section, CMD/ Quality Manager PTNPSL, Dr. Syeda Sabahat Zahra Kazmi, SIC Food & Microbiology Laboratory, CMD/ Technical Manager PTNPSL, Ms. Farah Shahzadi, Scintific Officer, Food & Microbiology Laboratory, CMD /Dy. Quality Manager PTNPSL.
Besides these trainees, Ms. Sabadra Jayasinghe (UNIDO/TRTA II International Expert) also joined as an observer. The training was conducted by the Manager, Analyst, Scientists of proficiency testing services division, NFI, Bangkok Thailand.
Main areas covered during this training were;
PT sample preparation for Chemical & Microbiological PT schemes for food and water matrix by spiking method, both Theoretical and Practical.
Hands on training on PT items preparation for Microbiological Techniques / Analysis including Listeria monocytogenes in chicken, Total plate count in Freeze Dried Shrimps, Staphylococcus aureus in water.
Hands on training of PT items for Chemical Techniques / Analysis including Heavy metal in Poultry Meat, Oxolinic Acid in Shrimps and Heavy metal in water.
Statistics for proficiency testing, Evaluation of Homogeneity and Stability, Data analysis and evaluation of Performance (Identification of Outlier), Assigned Value determination for PT items & Standard Deviation and Reports formation were also covered.
Discussion on Concentration level of Spikedparameters, Statistical method for use in proficiency testing by ILC and ISO 17043:2010 and ISO 13528:2005, Data Distribution with Kernal Density Estimates.
Training also included discussions, case studies and exercises.
As PTNPSL is the 1st National PT Provider Lab. in Pakistan, the training parameters were particularly helpful in enabling Pakistan to establish a National PT system. Participation in Proficiency Testing is an essential requirement to sustain ISO-17025 accreditation.
