UAF awarded with the certificate of Accreditation for PGDC in Food Safety and Control by the REHIS

The National Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFSAT) at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad has been awarded the certificate of Accreditation for the Post Graduate Diploma Course (PGDC) in Food Safety and Control. This Accreditation certificate awarded by The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) was officially handed over, by the Chief Technical Advisor of the EU-funded TRTA II Programme, Mr. Bruno Valanzuolo, to the UAF vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, during the inaugural session of an internal conference “Emerging Issues in Nutrition and Food Safety on 21 October 2013. This conference, organized by NIFSAT highlighted the importance of food safety regulations in the modern era, as well as the numerous challenges related to ensuring food security through access and distribution of “safe food for all”.

The conference was attended by the numerous participants from international organizations such as UNICEF, WFP and the Halal Research Centre in Thailand, Rotana Hotel Management Corporation (Dubai), Cornell and Texas A & M University (USA), as well as national organizations, institutions and private sector, which included representatives from University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore, Lahore College Women’s University, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad and The Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture, Peshawar and many food business operators, such as Nestle-Pakistan and English Biscuits Manufacturers.

At one of the technical sessions, of conference of the TRTA II Programme Officer, Dr. Ali  Qazilbash presented a paper on the “Institutional and Legal Development for food safety in Pakistan”. The presentation highlighted the activities undertaken within the scope of the TRTA II programme in developing a regulatory framework for food safety, animal and plant health in collaboration with OIE and the FAO.
