9th Programme Steering Committee Meeting

The TRTA II Programme organized the 9th Programme Steering Committee (PSC) meeting on Wednesday 25th November, 2015 in order to present the overall progress in the reporting period from April to October 2015 in terms of prominent achievements and next important steps, to the stakeholders. The meeting was attended by key people from EU, MoC/PITAD, UNIDO, ITC and WIPO along with representatives from MoST, MNFSR, CCP, PCSIR, FPCCI, TDRO, UVAS and IPO.

Key achievements for Component 1 were presented by ITC, amongst others, included effective consultation process on policy formulation informed with evidence based studies and foundations laid for institutional capacity building of CCP. Additionally, ITC also briefed the participants about the essential next steps including drafting of law for TDRO and a 1-week training program on CCP module for enforcement of competition law.

Prominent achievements made for the Component 2, implemented by UNIDO included training food safety officials on food inspection and control; documenting and applying for accreditation of the PGDC in Food safety and Controls; benchmarking study for surgical instruments sector; developing process control plans based on engineering drawings and standardization, installing and operationalizing SSHWT Units; issuing PO for the Provision of Cutlery Polishing Machines; promotional campaign for Pakistani Mangoes in Malaysia and Singapore; accreditation of testing laboratories and implementation in 30 laboratories.

WIPO presented the key achievements for Component 3 which included digitization of IP records, initiation of web portal development and Admin System for IPO and a roundtable on Development of National IP Strategy. In addition to this, the next steps for Component 3 were also shared with the participants including completion of Web portal development and Admin System for HR/Finance for IPO Pakistan; national training workshops on patent drafting and IP valuation and licensing; national event to promote use and further develop PiNET e-Forum by businesses.

The MNSFR representative informed the participants that the NAPHIS BILL has been approved by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Law has been, therefore, directed to vet the law so that the bill can be presented to the parliament for final approval. 

Stakeholders who have immensely benefitted from the Programme shared their experiences and opinions in terms of how the technical assistance provided by the TRTA II programmes has helped them in enhancing the capacity and improving the overall system of their respective organizations.
